Alistair Severn

I am a second year Mathematics PhD student at the University of Glasgow. My research interests are Analytic Number Theory, Rational Points on Varieties and Arithmetic Statistics.

I am a member of the EPSRC Algebra Geometry and Quantum Fields CDT.

I am supervised by Dr. Efthymios Sofos and Dr. Damián Gvirtz-Chen.

Before starting my PhD, I graduated with an MMATH degree from Durham University.

Research Interests

A selection of my current research interests are:

  • Counting problems in Arithmetic Geometry: Manin’s conjecture, The Loughran–Smeets conjecture, Serre’s problem of counting soluble conics in a family.
  • Primes and Polynomials: The (Multivariate) Bateman–Horn conjecture, The (Multivariate) Polynomial Chowla conjecture.
  • Partial Sums of Multiplicative Functions: The Landau–Selberg–Delange (LSD) method and generalisations.
  • Representations by Quadratic Forms: How many ways can an integer n be represented by a quadratic form Q? And in particular, applications of methods from the theory of quadratic forms to problems in the above areas.
  • Arithmetic Statistics: The Cohen–Lenstra heuristics, Malle’s conjecture.
